A special "Welcome aboard!" this month goes out to Winstone Aggregates and Transit NZ's Auckland and Christchurch regional offices as the newest members of the CS-VUE online community.   CS-VUE ENHANCEMENT - CONDITION DATA UNIFORMITY
With a continued focus on providing best practice methodologies, CS-VUE have enhanced the system to capture data and ensure data uniformity when adding consent conditions.

Within CS-VUE we have the ability to assign each condition:

1. To a Project phase, if the condition requires an Activity to be done during a particular phase of a project (design, pre-construction, construction, post-construction, operational).

2. As an Action type condition (either a single or multiple event), if the condition requires an activity to be done on a particular date or dates.

3. As a General type condition, if there is no activity specified which needs to be carried out by the consent holder (e.g. advice notes). Therefore, these do not need signing off.

The latest enhancement to the system provides further rigor around the input of consent condition data in the following scenarios:

1. When adding a condition:
-- the user must enter a condition type (it cannot be left as unassigned)
-- the user will only be presented with the action date fields for completion when adding an Action type condition.

2. When Snoozing a condition (for example, when the user is unable at present to carry out an activity due to poor weather conditions):
-- a warning message will be displayed if the user is attempting to snooze a condition well into the future (for multiple Action type conditions, the warning period depends on the event frequency).
-- if it is a multiple Action type condition, the user will only be able to snooze the condition until the next scheduled action date. For example, for a yearly action scheduled for 1st August 2007, you will only be able to snooze up until 1st August 2008.

BY THE NUMBERS - MORE THAN 20 OBJECTIONABLE ODOUR CHARGES
A New Zealand company faces more than 20 charges for unlawful discharges of objectionable odour and is also charged with illegally discharging contaminated wastewater.

A finding by the Environment Court that the cumulative effect of low level unpleasant odour can be considered objectionable is being labeled a "landmark" case by Environment Waikato.

The court has ruled that chronic low level odours discharged from a mushroom composting site in Morrinsville are offensive to neighbours and must be contained.

"This is a very significant decision because it is the first time evidence of chronic odour effects have been explicitly dealt with," Environment Waikato processing industry programme manager David Stagg said. "The court has ruled that the cumulative effect of unpleasant odours can be considered objectionable, even if individual odour events are not bad enough to be considered objectionable on their own."

Until now, bad smells have been dealt with as individual events. This has prevented the company from expanding its operation.

Further information can be found at the Environment Waikato and NZ Herald websites.

  HANDY HINTS & TIPS
A handy feature in CS-VUE within the Alerts area is the ability to view all Consents with weather related conditions easily, with just a couple of clicks of the mouse. By selecting the Alert search filter within the Alerts page and selecting "Weather Events" all consents which have a condition stipulation relating to a weather event can be located and accessed simply and easily.

When setting up a condition there is a tickbox to flag a condition with a weather event requirement which is then picked up through the Alerts window when the search filter is applied.
