CS-VUE ENHANCEMENTS - VALIDATION OF FIELDS
Some of you may have noticed CS-VUE now validates key data fields as you enter information in to the system.

This update ensures that accurate data is entered into CS-VUE so that the system is utilised correctly.

Required fields are now marked with an asterisk, and include examples such as:
  • Permit Number
  • Email Address
  • Granted Date
It is recommended that you carefully read any error messages (if any) that may pop up when entering data.  Please feel free to contact Jasmine if you have any questions.

  CS-VUE ENHANCEMENTS - 5 - 10 YEAR EXPIRY ALERT

On the "Alerts" tab you will notice that we have added a new expiry alert in addition to all your usual alerts:
  • Expiring in 5 to 10 years
This is to help quickly identify consents that are due to expire within the next five to ten year period.  Clicking on the hyperlinked number will take you directly down the page to that section.

This enhancement should prove particularly useful for all our Council users when working on Long Term Plans.

CS-VUE ENHANCEMENTS - RICH TEXT FIELD EDITOR
A new rich text editor has been provided as an option on the edit condition page whereby the user can select the type of format desired (plain text or rich text) prior to condition text entry.

This means that tables and special characters and table formats will be even easier to enter into CS-VUE.

BY THE NUMBERS - UP TO $200,000 OR JAIL TIME
A Wairarapa dairy farmer is facing penalties of up to $200,000 or jail on charges related to the massacre of hundreds of threatened native eels....

...Mr Conland urged landowners and contractors considering works to first contact Greater Wellington consents and compliance staff for advice.

"All stream works should be carried out in a way that avoids, or alleviates any adverse effects on vegetation and stream life.

"In this case, because of the area's regional significance, a resource consent application should have been lodged prior to the works being carried out."

BY THE NUMBERS - $1.6 - $2 MILLION CLEAN UP
One of the most extensive and complicated site investigations ever carried out by the Taranaki Regional Council has helped to define a way forward in dealing with the old Patea Freezing Works.

The Ministry for the Environment, the Taranaki Regional Council and the South Taranaki District Council funded the 10-month project to assess contamination at the site. However, an unexpected and serious interruption came on Waitangi Day, when a major fire left the site a tangled and hazardous mess.

  BY THE NUMBERS - $15,000 + $9,000 FINES
Environment Canterbury has been successful recently in three prosecutions involving damage to Canterbury wetlands.
  • A North Otago agricultural contracting business together with its owner was fined $15,000 for draining a wetland area during a dairy farm conversion at Omarama.
  • In a second case, a South Canterbury farmer was fined $9000 for constructing an earth and tyre barrier which drained the bed of Lake Wainono, near Timaru.
  • In a third case, a South Canterbury farmer drained a wetland within the tributary of the Waitaki River in order to install a pivot irrigation system.

BY THE NUMBERS - TREVOR MALLARD RECOMMENDS UP TO 2 YEARS JAIL
Polluting farmers should be jailed, says Environment Minister Trevor Mallard. He told the Water and Wastes Association conference in Christchurch this week that he supported tougher sentences and even jail for serious water polluters.

Exporters who continued to pollute or mismanage water and broke the rules were undermining their own products and the "valuable New Zealand brand".

"Regional councils in particular need to be a lot tougher as far as the standards are concerned, and more importantly the enforcement of the standards," Mallard said. "Far too often these days, farmers not always farmers treat fines under the Resource Management Act as a cost of the business.

We should prosecute individuals rather than companies change the focus from a fine-based system to the possibility of imprisonment."
